Here are six things you can do to lower high blood pressure or avoid it altogether:
• Lose weight.
• Get regular physical activity—at least 30 minutes most days of the week.
• Don’t smoke.
• Reduce your sodium (salt) intake.
• Drink alcohol in moderation, or not at all.
• Take blood pressure medication, if prescribed, as your doctor indicates.
If you have high blood pressure, make sure you take care of it. Not doing so can lead to heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and other serious problems.
