Issue 7 Stories

INTEGRATING THE ARTS INTO THE HEALTHCARE experience at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is a natural extension of our long-standing commitment to a positively differentiated healing environment. The vision of creating an indoor and outdoor setting that supports the physical, mental and emotional well-being of patients and families, as well as fostering a supportive environment for caregivers, remains a priority and continues to influence facility and campus design and development significantly.

Thanks to a thriving partnership with local artists, collectors and patrons, Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital’s art collection is an inspiration for community members, making the hospital a destination of choice for art as well as health care. With art tours underway twice weekly, Sentara Martha Jefferson’s permanent art collection is one worthy of a visit.

It is in acknowledgement and appreciation of this generosity that the Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation recognizes the following artists and art patrons for gifts of art to the Sentara Martha Jefferson art collection in 2017.

As you have opportunity, we invite you to participate in a docent-led tour of the hospital collection, and to relax and enjoy the music performed in the hospital lobby or on the inpatient units by volunteer musicians and music therapists. With the continuing support of volunteers, artists and donors, Sentara Martha Jefferson will continue to incorporate the arts—visual, literary and performing—more fully into the everyday healthcare experience.Note: Gifts supporting the Sentara Martha Jefferson Arts-in-Healthcare program are recognized otherwise.
